Five ideas for a better Planet
Zadar Public Library experience
Zadar Public Library (ZPL) organizes and implements programs for various user groups, with a particular focus on topics aligned with the UN Agenda 2030, especially those falling under the 4th category: Quality Education. Let’s highlight a few of ZPL’s programs aimed at contributing to the quality education of its diverse user groups.
The “Readers’ Passport” is a program intended for children attending the 1st grade of elementary schools. The program aims to cultivate the habit of visiting the library and spending leisure time reading. Local authorities have generously funded free enrollment in ZPL for all first graders from elementary and high schools. The first-grade students receive readers’ passports at the time of library enrollment.
The “Storyville” program is a gathering of young storytellers, an event where elementary school children present rehearsed stories and fairy tales. The program’s objectives include promoting reading, developing storytelling techniques, boosting self-confidence, nurturing children’s creativity, and providing practice in public performance. This project is designed for children in lower grades of elementary school and offers them an opportunity to learn basic concepts of Physics in a creative and interactive manner.
“Brain Needs Exercise. Best by Reading” is a program and slogan that encapsulates ZPL’s array of activities, emphasizing the importance of a reading habit in daily life. Collaborating with kindergartens and schools, ZPL conducts reading promotion programs in the Central library, library branches, and library stations.
ZPL also organizes education for its patrons on the application of the e-Citizen system. The program’s aim is to educate and raise awareness among Library users and interested citizens about the usage and application of this government service.
