School library in the service of ecology and sustainability
School library in Primary School Zlatar Bistrica actively participated in the celebration of Earth Day 2023 by organizing ecological activities that encouraged students to blend ecology and environmental awareness with reading, creative use of various media, and information and communication technology.
Students engaged in a creative collaboration between Elementary School Zlatar Bistrica and Elementary School Konjščina through the digital platform eTwinning on an inventive recycling project involving plastic bottles, known as upcycling. In this project, 4th-grade students from Elementary School Konjščina, guided by their teachers, transformed old plastic bottles into useful and decorative items. These items included bracelets, flower pots, airplanes, windmills, animals, vases, and various other figures. The students from Zlatar Bistrica Elementary School used these creations for reading and recording plays. They were guided by the school librarian, following the play collection template of the Croatian author, Jadranka Čunčić-Bandov.
The School organized a workshop “Generation Z to Save Planet Z”. The goal of the workshop was to investigate how environmental topics are represented in different types of media. The pupils also participated in a workshop “Ecology and Technology Are Networked and in Balance”. This workshop revolved around book characters who utilized smartphones to clean their environment from pollution.
