The Library of Things

The aim of the Library of Things project of Pietrary Library is to empower children and young people to explore an innovative, practical, cost-effective, and eco-friendly approach to sharing various objects, gadgets, and items that can teach them new STEM concepts. This is achieved by implementing the principles of the circular economy at the local level and through the concept of the ‘Right to Reparation.’ The project extends the core library concepts of borrowing and sharing, traditionally associated with books, to include lending various objects.

The project also promotes the idea of consuming less and not purchasing items that are only used infrequently, if at all. The Library of Things encourages an eco-friendly lifestyle while reducing unnecessary consumption, resulting in more space and time for each individual. To facilitate the use of shared objects from the library’s collections, workshops are organized for the community, led by specialists from various fields who endorse and support this concept.
